3 Simple Steps to Set Confident & Successful Goals

Bulletproof your goal setting strategy. 

Simplistic goal setting does not work. 

You know...the “choose a goal and start sprinting towards it as fast as possible” routine. And although I applaud your eagerness to get started, I know from experience, that this is not the most effective method of goal setting.

Don't worry if you feel this way right now, or if you have felt this way in the past. Where you've started a goal and then all that eagerness ends in disaster because you didn't really have a good plan. I am going to help you to set confident goals and plan for success. 

If you do not set goals properly and prepare for long term success, you're going to get distracted, you're going to fall off course, or even worse,  you could get discouraged, and never actually reach your destination.

Over the years, as a health and fitness coach, I have worked with thousands of clients who have had lots of different goals. 

I can think of some in particular, where they had all the right intentions, they had the eagerness to want to get started, but didn't want to take the time to say “this is where I'm actually starting from”. 

It is so important to take the time to identify real obstacles that are in your way. What's holding you back? What do you need to get through, under, around, over, in order to reach that goal?

They never actually created a plan for success.

I've felt this before. I know that you're eager to get started. You just want to dive in. You just want to make it happen. I've made this mistake many times in my life (just ask my husband).

I love that enthusiasm, but I promise you, when you take the time to step back and create the plan for success, you will begin to Champion your life and get the things you want most.

  • You Gotta Meditate. 

I’m not talking, sit in a room and chant (although that is appropriate at times), I am talking, sit down for a moment and really think about where you are right now.

What is your current situation?  Take real measurements. Really assess where you are now. Be honest with yourself. 

If we don't don’t take the time to truly assess our starting point, we are literally lost to begin with. How can you possibly set a destination, If you don't know where you are now? How will you ever be able to determine how far you have come, or the best route to get to your destination, if you don’t know where you are right now?

 

 

  • You have to Aim for your goal. 

So this is where we actually choose where it is you want to go.   To do this, you need to also determine what obstacles are in your way. 

Imagine yourself drawing an actual, physical map to a destination.  If you do this correctly, you're going to know what mountains you're going to have to climb. You're going to know what toll booths you're going to have to pay. You're going to know what rivers you need to cross, or ferry you need to charter. 

You would never set out on a trip without knowing these things...would you?

So why would we not do the same with our goals? Why do we skip this step and expect to find freedom without a plan for sustained success?

If we don't take the time to aim our efforts, we're going to be wandering around, without purpose or direction. 

If you are anything like me, you feel like nothing could be worse than wasted effort. 

Let’s be specific and focused about the goals that we set. 

 

 

  • Make a Plan.  

Now that you know where you are starting from, exactly where you want to go, and what is in your way...it is time to choose the route. 

Are you going to take the scenic route? Do you want to take the fast track and get there as soon as possible? Or did you decide to take the short cut?

Choose the path that makes the most sense to you.  Then get on it, and stick to it.

If we don't make a plan for success, we're bound to become overwhelmed, distracted, and lose focus. When you run into an obstacle that you have not prepared for, you could  fall off track and never actually reach your destination.

Now let’s set those confident & successful goals.
